The wrong question is "Which Korea eSIM is best?" The useful question is "What must my phone do in Korea?" A cheap data plan can handle navigation, translation and WhatsApp perfectly, yet fail when a restaurant asks for a callback number. A voice-capable tourist SIM can provide a number but still may not unlock services that require a resident identity record.
Choose the function first, then compare providers. Do not pay extra for a local number unless your itinerary will use it.
Choose data-only when your trip runs through apps
A data-only eSIM is usually sufficient when you will use NAVER Map, KakaoMap, translation, email, web browsing and internet messaging. App-based taxi and reservation services may send updates inside the app or by email.
It is also the easiest setup for a short trip if your home SIM remains active for essential bank messages. Turn off data roaming on the home line so it does not create unexpected charges.
Choose a local number when people need to reach you
A plan with a Korean number is useful for restaurants or accommodations that call, local delivery coordination, tour operators that send ordinary texts, and situations where staff need a callback number. Check whether the plan allows incoming calls and SMS or only assigns a number for identification.
"Includes a Korean number" does not automatically mean unlimited voice service. Read the direction of calls, included minutes, SMS capability and any top-up requirement.
A tourist number is not Korean identity verification
Some domestic websites verify that a phone subscription matches a Korean resident identity. A short-term prepaid SIM or eSIM may receive calls and texts but still fail that identity check. Do not buy a number on the promise that it will open every Korean app.

Online delivery or airport counter?
An online eSIM is convenient because the QR code arrives before travel, but support may be remote when installation fails. An airport carrier counter can check the device and connection before you leave, although the queue and available plans may differ. Travelers who depend on the phone immediately for a late-night transfer should favor a setup they can test while support is open.
Estimate data from behavior
Maps, messaging and ordinary browsing use much less data than video streaming, cloud photo backup or hotspot use. Hotel Wi-Fi can reduce consumption, but do not rely on it for navigation between places.
Check whether "unlimited" means full speed all day or a high-speed allowance followed by reduced speed. A throttled connection may still handle messages while making video and large uploads difficult.
Keep the home SIM without paying roaming data
Dual-SIM phones can keep the home number available for bank or account messages while the Korean eSIM carries data. The safe setup depends on the phone: disable cellular-data switching, turn off data roaming on the home line and review whether incoming calls create charges.
If the home carrier charges for receiving texts or calls abroad, confirm that policy before travel. Phone settings prevent data use but cannot rewrite the carrier's roaming terms.
